Some big moves across Canadian mining stocks today, with copper and gold explorers attracting interest while a few names came under selling pressure. Meanwhile, Hudbay and Mitsubishi have made the final investment decision on Copper World, one of the larger US copper developments.

Winners

$HRNY +37.3% – Bighorn Metals completed its exploration program at Loljuh in BC, covering five copper-gold porphyry targets. Soil sampling and trenching are complete, with assays pending. Interesting ground, but it's still early days. No drilling yet and no defined resources.

$EDG +22.9% – Endurance Gold reported another six holes from Reliance in BC. The standout was 5.2m at 5.89 g/t gold and 0.19% antimony, while another hole returned 16.2m at 2.24 g/t gold. The company is continuing to extend mineralisation, with several new high-grade structures also identified.

$GSTM +16.7% – Goldstorm Metals released its first assays from Crown in BC's Golden Triangle. The headline intercept was 407.55m at 0.39 g/t gold equivalent, including 15m at 2.89 g/t. Four holes are still pending. Worth noting the gold equivalent calculations assume 85% recoveries without supporting metallurgical testwork.

Losers

$KIRO -32.3% – Kairos Gold released its first two Phase Three holes from Oro Brillante in Chile. One hole returned 130.5m at 0.43% copper, 0.12 g/t gold and 7.30 g/t silver, while the other reported no significant assays among its principal highlights. A sizeable decline despite confirming copper mineralisation.

$LAF -20.0% – Lithium Africa came under pressure despite recently receiving two non-binding funding proposals for Springbok, including a US$60 million investment proposal. The project is targeting production in H2 2027, although there's still no feasibility study or defined resource. The financing terms and ability to deliver that timeline will be important.

$BBB -13.0% – Brixton Metals reported 97% combined gold recovery from preliminary metallurgical work at Trapper, alongside drilling of 138m at 0.80 g/t gold. The recovery result came from one high-grade composite, so it's too early to assume that performance across the deposit. A maiden resource is expected in Q1 2027.

Broader market

$HBM and Mitsubishi have approved construction of the Copper World project in Arizona. Initial capital is US$2.07 billion, with first production targeted for H2 2029 and average copper output of 102,000 tonnes annually over the first decade.

The financing structure is particularly interesting. Mitsubishi is contributing US$600 million, Wheaton has committed a US$230 million stream deposit, and around US$650 million in project debt is anticipated. Hudbay's remaining contribution of approximately US$500 million isn't required until 2028.
